How To Overclock Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7

So you’ve been having that little Amazon baby with you for some time now and you think you want to tinker around with it? Why not? Let’s jazz it up with some cool developments that’s been cooked by enthusiastic developers over at XDA Forums. The thing we’re talking about here is overclocking, that lets you overclock the CPU of your device allowing you to get better performance off of your device. So if you’re ready and want to learn how you can do that, here’s how:

I. Before You Begin:

1. You must have rooted your device before doing this procedure. Please head to our How to Root the Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7 procedure first and root your device.
2. You must have TWRP Recovery installed on your device. Follow this and then this guide to do that.

II. Make a Backup:

1. Head over to the Google Play and get the Quick Boot app installed on your device.
2. Once the app’s been installed, launch it from your App Drawer.
3. Tap on the Recovery option to reboot your device into Recovery mode.
4. Once in Recovery, select Backup and then tick-mark all the options available on the next screen.
5. Hit Swipe to Back Up and it’ll start backing up your current firmware. The backup will be saved on your device.
6. You’re done!

III. Downloading Required Files:

1. Overclock Kernel (Download link’s given in the first post)

IV. Flashing the Overclock Kernel on the Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7:

1. Place the Overclock Kernel zip onto your Desktop.
2. Connect your device to your PC using the USB cable.
3. Copy the Kernel zip over to the root of your SD card.
4. Once the zip has been copied, disconnect your device from your PC.
5. Open the Quick Boot app from your App Drawer.
6. Hit the Recovery option and you’ll reboot into the Recovery mode.
7. Once inside Recovery, select Install and choose the Kernel zip to be installed on your device.
8. It’ll begin installing the zip on your device, should be done within a few minutes.
9. Once the kernel’s been flashed, reboot your device.
10. You’re all done!

V. Overclocking the Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7:

1. Download and install either of these apps on your device:
2. Once installed, open the app from your App Drawer.
3. Now use the slider or available option to increase your CPU clock speed and keep on doing so as long as your device’s comfortable with it.
4. Make sure not to choose save on boot option in the app as it may lead to crash of your device.
5. Once your device becomes comfortable with a specific clock speed, close the app.
6. You’re all set!
Wonderful! Your device has been successfully overclocked and now fine-tune the settings to best match your activities!

VI. Reverting Back to the Stock Kernel (Optional):

1. Launch the Quick Boot app from your App Drawer.
2. Hit the Recovery option to reboot your device into Recovery mode.
3. Once there, select Restore and choose the most recent backup you have there on the list.
4. Hit Swipe to Restore and it’ll start restoring the backup on your device.
5. Once the backup’s been restored, reboot your device.
6. You’re all done!
Cheers! You’ve successfully reverted back to the stock kernel!
